Many of us go through life asking ourselves on a daily basis: What are we working for? Why, day in and day out do I do the things I do? The answer is simple, we are all working toward our version and vision of the American Dream. We all simply want a future far greater than our past and that is tough to do facing so many obstacles. It seems like at every turn in the road we run into a roadblock. We are not qualified enough, not white enough, not rich enough, too weak, not strong enough, and not educated enough. For God's sake I don't have a penis and a Masters degree but that doesn't mean that I don't have high hopes and an American Dream like everyone else. Maybe it's just as easy an answer as the carnage of a greatly misguided economic policy.
Our belief of the American dream is the faith that anyone can gain success through blood, sweat, tears, and a little ass kissing every now and then. Ever since we were little Americans have been united by the common dream of a bright and prosperous future, one that far surpasses that of their parents and grandparents. We are taught that the promise of American life, which is handed down through the generations and rests on a basic bargain, that we will all have the opportunity to live up top our God-given potential and possess the responsibility to make the most of our individual situations. So America lets stand up and grow up and take control of our own lives. No matter what color, what gender, or what level of education you have, you all have dream, your American dream. As in the words of the great Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., "...As we walk, we must make a pledge that we shall always march ahead. We cannot turn back!" So no matter how misguided our country may seem or how bad our economy has been run into the ground by our elected leaders we must all march on. With all of the negative looming above us like a nasty rain cloud on the horizon, our values, our culture, and our politics are all part of a common quest to make tomorrow a better today.
